Locations of The Royal Black Institution

HEADQUARTERS

In the early part of the 20th Century, the Royal Black Institution occupied

premises at Donegall Square West in Belfast. However the need for increased

accommodation became imperative due to the expansion of membership, and at a

meeting of the Grand Council of the Imperial Grand Black Chapter held in

Brownlow House, Lurgan, Northern Ireland, on June 10th 1924 a motion was

presented emphasising the necessity for larger accommodation. The following

December a proposal to relocate the Headquarters to Brownlow House, Lurgan

was approved. This remains the current location of the Headquarters of the

Royal Black Institution.

Since its humble beginning in Ireland in 1797, The Royal Black Institution

has spread throughout the world and today maybe found in the following

locations: -

AUSTRALIA

The Royal Black Institution is represented by the 7 Preceptories in

Australia who due to geographical locations work within two Provincial Grand

Black Chapters as follows: -

Provincial Grand Black Chapter of New South Wales with 4 Preceptories

Provincial Grand Black Chapter of Victoria with 3 Preceptories

CANADA

The Royal Black Institution has a very strong representation throughout

Canada with a total of 160 Preceptories spread over 6 District Chapters. As

a link to the past these District Chapters operate through a Provincial

Grand Black Chapter known as the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of British

America. The locations of the various Preceptories are as follows: -

Newfoundland with 73 Preceptories

Nova Scotia with 6 Preceptories

New Brunswick with 8 Preceptories

Eastern Ontario with 24 Preceptories

Ontario West with 39 Preceptories

Manitoba with 4 Preceptories

Due to geographical location there are a further 6 Preceptories who report

directly to the Provincial Grand Chapter of British America.

ENGLAND

The Provincial Grand Black Chapter of England is made up of 25 Preceptories,

the majority of which are to be found in and around Liverpool and

Manchester. However, there is also a nucleus of Preceptories represented in

the South of England by a District Chapter, including the capital city

London and are located as follows: -.

Liverpool District No 1 with 3 Preceptories

Liverpool District No 2 with 8 Preceptories

Manchester District No 4 with 3 Preceptories

Liverpool North End and Bootle District No 6 with 3 Preceptories

South of England District No 11 with 6 Preceptories

Due to their geographical location there are a further 2 Preceptories who

report directly to the Provincial Grand Chapter of England.

NEW ZEALAND

The Royal Black Institution is represented in this most southerly part of

the world by the 8 Preceptories in New Zealand which all report directly to

the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of New Zealand.

SCOTLAND

The Royal Black Institution has a very strong representation throughout

Scotland through the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of Scotland, which has a

total of 60 Preceptories spread over 11 District Chapters. These are to be

found in and around the Greater Glasgow area, Ayrshire as well as in the

Lothian area including the capital city of Edinburgh and are located as

follows: -

Airdrie and Coatbridge District No 3 with 8 Preceptories

Throughout the Province of Ulster there are over 500 Preceptories located in

many towns and village as well as in the rural heartland. The nine

Provincial Grand Black Chapters are made up as follows: -

City of Belfast 7 District Chapters with 85 Preceptories

County Cavan 3 District Chapters with 12 Preceptories

County Londonderry 4 District Chapters with 36 Preceptories

UNITED STATES of AMERICA

The Royal Black Institution is scattered over this vast continent and is

represented by 15 Preceptories which all report directly to the Provincial

Grand Black Chapter of United States of America

WEST AFRICA

The Royal Black Institution latest world expansion has come from the growth

of members in West Africa. Such has been the growth that 2 District Chapters

now operate under the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of West Africa as

follows: -
